The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) has been officially established in July 1957 after the usage of nuclear weapons during the World War II. Even though it is considered as a specialized agency in the UN Charter and governed by its own treaty, the committee reports to the UN Security Council and the UN General Assembly. Currently, the IAEA adapts 4 critical missions, improving the usage of nuclear energy and technology peacefully and safely; improving and checking the global nuclear security standarts; inspecting the member states about the usage of nuclear weapons; and providing technical cooperation and capacity building support to member states.
In this committee, delegates will be representing the member states at 69th General Conference of IAEA; electing new members to the board of governors; assigning and approving the budget of the committee and programmes; and debate upon one of the most significant agenda item of the committee, global nuclear security.
